How Is Counseling Support Helpful After a Self-Defense Incident?
Using a firearm or any other legal weapon to defend yourself or another person can be a violent, emotionally traumatic experience. Counseling Support after such an experience can help to alleviate mentally detrimental feelings of depression, loss of sleep, and the effects of PTSD.
What Does Firearms Legal Protection Cover for Counseling Support?
If a member requires the services of a mental health professional as the result of a use of weapon incident, we will pay $125 per counseling session up to an aggregate of $2,500. This counseling must be performed by a licensed psychiatrist, psychologist, or social worker.

Incidents involving the use of a weapon can be incredibly stressful, scary, and traumatic. Defending oneself and using a weapon against another person can leave lasting effects on an individual’s quality of life. Firearms Legal Protection (FLP) understands this and goes beyond just providing attorney coverage. Our premium plans also include support for counseling services.
We want members who have experienced a self-defense situation to have access to the help they need. If a member requires mental health counseling from a licensed provider as a direct result of a weapon incident, FLP will cover up to $125 per counseling session, with a total aggregate amount of $2,500. This allows for a minimum of 20 sessions, ensuring our members can process their experiences and not carry the trauma with them for the rest of their lives.
